Acts of Kinndness #5

Many years ago I received a handwritten note from a female student who attended one of my classes. In the note she expressed her gratitude for the support, the example and the impact that I had had on her life. I had completely forgotten about the note until recently when I found it tucked away in one of my books. Now these many years later I can reread the note and once again have those same good feelings and the boost of self esteem flow back into my memory. It is wonderful how such a small effort of expressing appreciation to someone can be immediate, but can also last a lifetime.

Last summer I watched one of John Bytheway’s DVD’s titled Family Night. In it John talks about respecting our leaders and gives an example of writing a note to one of your teachers to express your feelings about how you have enjoyed their teaching. I have taken to task many of the suggestions John has given in his DVD’s, but I have received the greatest blessings from this one.

Recently while browsing through a bookstore I found an interesting book titled “FISHING – Observations of a Reel Man” by, aptly enough, John Bytheway. As I read through it, my mind kept focusing on one of my current teachers who is an avid fisherman herself. Remembering the message John had given in his DVD about showing appreciation I thought that this book would be a good way to show my appreciation to her for the many lessons she has taught.

Today I gave the book to my teacher with a small note of appreciation written inside the cover. It was very rewarding to see that same look of gratitude and appreciation on her face that I had found on my face and in my heart those many years ago from a short note of gratitude handed me by a grateful student.
