After spending the morning raking up the winter windfall of fir bows, pinecones and needle from our yard, and then mowing the lawns, I had a truckload of yard waste ready to take to the dump. Fortunately for me the dump is only 1/3 of a mile away, and I can take all of my yard waste over there for free.
I backed up to the unloading spot and proceeded to empty out my load. I was in such a hurry to get over here that I forgot to bring my rake, so I was emptying the load by hand. Curiously enough, they let you dump al the yard waste you want for free. They then grind it all up into fine mulch and store it in large piles. They then sell it to the local landscaping companies which in turn sell it back to me to put on my lawn as lawn mulch. It just doesn’t make any sense.
Midway through my dumping process another pickup truck loaded with pruned fir bows backed in along side of me. An older man got out of the truck and proceeded to unload his load of bows. I say older, as I just had my 70th birthday and whenever I see anyone older than me I always try to appreciate that fact. When I finished with my load I went over and offered to help him with his load. “Oh no, I have plenty of time” he replied. Well I had just as much time as he did, so I told him I would help him anyway. It only took us an additional two minutes and we had his truck unloaded also.
The sun was shining today and it felt good. Not only from the warmth from the sun, but the warmth of giving also.
