Homeless Man Returns Lost Bag of Cash
From KSAZ News
TEMPE - An ASU student has a lot to be thankful for this holiday season -- he accidentally left thousands of dollars in cash at a light rail stop. A homeless man found that money, but instead of keeping it, he made sure the student got it back.
As you can imagine, a couple thousand dollars would be a game-changer for a homeless man, but Dave Talley did the right thing. And Wednesday, student Bryan Balenger got to say thanks in person.
Talley found a backpack containing a laptop and the cash at a light rail station. There was no identification inside the bag.
Balenger says he simply forgot it.
"It was 6:30 in the morning, I was on my way to work... my hands were full and I just left it on the seat next to me," Balenger says.
After checking with Lost and Found and waiting for days, the ASU senior thought he'd never see the money again. He was planning to use it to buy a car.
"I thought hopefully whoever had the money needed it more than me, but when I got the call it was incredible."
Talley, who has been homeless for almost four years, turned in the bag to his shelter and they took care of the rest.
"I'm so happy he has his life back... Merry Christmas," says Talley.
"It really is a lesson to keep your faith in people, and character exists no matter what your circumstances," says Balenger. He is now planning to get involved with the Tempe Community Action Agency, the organization that runs Talley's homeless shelter.
Acts of Kindness are contagious!
